What’s the viability of running two videocards over running a videocard with dual monitor output?
A friend asked me to price out a system upgrade for him. One of the features he wants is dual-monitor ability, but on a budget (of course). As far as I know, he isn’t looking for high-end gaming or anything like that, but has often spoke of getting into graphics/video editing. Would it be more effective to have two independent videocards or try and get a newer one that had dual monitor capabilities?
Most newish (past 3/4 years) cards have dual outputs, normal one VGA and another DVI. You could go with 2 new cards, and use the dual outputs of one for the monitors, and you the other in SLI/Crossfire if that works for you.
